Pitt sports teams are familiar with such a feeling and are hardly strangers to both the joy and agony inevitable after a close game. Although the outcome may not always be in the Panthers’ favor, the last decade has given Pitt fans their fair share of nail-biters. Here are some of Pitt’s famed moments that came down to the wire.

In addition to Pitt football’s headline-grabbing win over conference rival Louisville on Saturday, other Panther teams had a busy and largely triumphant weekend. Both men’s and women’s soccer picked up road wins, taking down Notre Dame and The Citadel, respectively. Pitt volleyball did not experience that same success, though, as the team fell to Syracuse twice in back-to-back nights.
Panthers volleyball will start its season late with its first match on Sept. 25 in Syracuse, New York, against the Orange.

After ensuring that the fall football season was feasible amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Atlantic Coast Conference moved to establish guidelines for the five other fall sports its member schools play.
Temporarily scrapping the traditional Atlantic and Coastal divisions, the ACC football teams will act as a singular division, with each school assigned five home games and five away games.

ACC announces delay for some fall sports

The Atlantic Coast Conference Board of Directors announced Thursday afternoon that the beginning of fall Olympic sports will be delayed until Sept. 1. Pitt’s men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball and cross country are among the affected sports. ACC field hockey programs will also be subject to the delay, but will not apply to Pitt, which does not have a program.
