Pitt women’s basketball makes strides, faces challenges during pandemic season

Despite the debate on whether college athletes should play this winter, and several programs either postponing or cancelling their seasons, the Pitt women’s basketball team has already completed its rather short nonconference schedule and begun ACC play. The team has steadied itself into a 3-3 record.

Pittsburgh sports community donates $800,000 to vaccine research

Pitt athletics announced Wednesday morning that four of the department’s leaders — athletic director Heather Lyke, head football coach Pat Narduzzi, head women’s basketball coach Lance White and head men’s basketball coach Jeff Capel — would donate a combined $500,000 to support Pitt’s Center for Vaccine Research in their pursuit of a vaccine that protects against the coronavirus.

In a lopsided matchup against No. 14 Florida State in the 13th annual Pink the Pete game, Pitt women’s basketball played close for most of the game, but were unable to sustain solid play, eventually being blown out, 66-41.

White welcomes new year in women’s basketball rebuild

Leaves crunch underfoot, temperatures drop and basketballs hit the hardwood — November is finally here, meaning that Pitt women’s basketball will open their second season under head coach Lance White this month. White is charged with the tall task of rebuilding Pitt’s struggling women’s basketball program and has already gotten to work revamping the middling Panthers.

Pitt escapes exhibition with a narrow win

Typically, a preseason exhibition game is an opportunity for more talented teams to tune up for the regular season against a lower-division opponent. But for Pitt women’s basketball, Friday night’s exhibition against Pitt-Johnstown was another story. The Panthers struggled mightily, escaping with a narrow 76-62 win over the Division II Mountain Cats.

Pitt snaps 18-game ACC losing streak in 91-78 win over UNC
