Hello again from:

It’s deja vu for the Pitt men’s basketball team today, as the Panthers tip-off at 2 p.m. against an opponent they beat in the regular season. The bracket hands them No. 5 seed Georgetown today, which the Panthers beat in January, 72-60, at the Petersen Events Center.

The Pitt men’s basketball team takes on the St. John’s Red Storm today at 2 p.m. in the opening round of the Big East tournament. The Panthers beat the Red Strom last Wednesday, 89-69, at the Petersen Events Center, although they struggled against St. John’s press (as they so often do). They finished with 16 turnovers.

Tipoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. tonight and the game will be airing on ESPNU.

It’s the Panthers third game of the season and they will look to rebound after a closer than expected 86-78 victory over Rider on Sunday night.

Projected Starters for the Panthers:
F-Lamar Patterson
F-Nasir Robinson
C-Dante Taylor
G-Ashton Gibbs
G-Tray Woodall

Projected Starters for the 49ers
G-James Ennis
G-Larry Anderson
G-Casper Ware
F-Eugene Phelps
F-T.J. Robinson

The 49ers won’t be taken lightly by the Panthers, as they come in as the heavy favorites to win the Big West Conference. They’re led by senior guards Casper Ware and Larry Anderson. They return two other senior starters, so their experience can’t be undersold.

This game kicks off a brutal non conference schedule for the 49ers, as they still have games remaining against San Diego State, Louisville, Kansas, North Carolina, and Xavier.

It should be a real battle in the backcourt as the 49ers guards will have to compete with Preseason Big East Player of the Year Ashton Gibbs and junior point guard Tray Woodall who is averaging a double-double with 21 points and 10 assists per game.
