Women’s Soccer: Pitt rebounds from loss, shuts Bucknell out 3-0
August 30, 2013
Pittsburgh women’s soccer defeated Bucknell 3-0 Friday at Ambrose Urbanic Field, behind a pair goals separated by just two minutes.
Emily Pietrangelo (39’) scored in the first half to put the Panthers (2-1) up early on the Bisons (2-1), while Alex Charlebois (59’) and Jessica Marini (61’) iced the match early in the second half. In goal, Nicole D’Agostino gave the Panthers 68 minutes of shutout keeping and collected five saves along the way
In the early portion of the game, the Panthers had a golden chance. Junior midfielder Alyssa Meier almost put the Panthers on the board in the eighth minute, but her rising shot hit off the crossbar and bounced out of play.
The play remained fairly even until the Panthers got on the board in the 39th minute. Senior Katie Lippert sent a perfect ball to a streaking Emily Pietrangelo. Pietrangelo was able to corral the ball, and fired a shot past Bison goalie Jessie Ashworth.
Following the goal, Lippert was extremely active, as the senior midfielder/forward sent three shots on goal. However Bucknell goalkeeper Jessie Ashworth saved all three, thus preventing the Panthers from extending their lead before the end of the first half.
Following the strong first half, the Panthers retained the momentum and continued to pepper Ashworth with shots. All of the chances were unsuccessful for the Panthers, until a corner kick in the 59th minute.
On the play sophomore Roosa Arvas sent a perfect ball into the box, that junior Alex Charlebois was able to connect with. The successful connection put the Panthers up 2-0, a lead the Panthers would see extended just two minutes later when Jessica Marini buried a cross from Siobhan McDonough for her first goal of 2013 and a 3-0 Pitt lead.
