Each year, students bring traffic congestion to Oakland as they return to their on- and off-campus housing.

At different times during the move-in period, which started Saturday, Aug. 17 and will end Sunday, Aug. 25, a number of roads will be closed to accommodate the traffic. Pitt has issued a traffic advisory outlining the closures and other measures taken to address the increased traffic.

The stretch of Bigelow Boulevard between Forbes and Fifth Avenues will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday. It will be closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, and on Thursday it will be closed from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

From Wednesday to Friday, Lothrop Street will be closed to vehicular traffic between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

From Monday to Wednesday, University Place will be closed to vehicular traffic from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. On Thursday and Friday, it will be closed from  9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Schenley Quadrangle was closed to all vehicles starting Saturday and will remain closed until Sunday, August 25.

From Monday to Friday, use of parking meters on Ruskin Avenue will be restricted to vehicles associated with students who are moving into Ruskin Hall. University of Pittsburgh Police officers will also be stationed on the corner of Allequippa Street and University Drive C to direct traffic.

Traffic on campus is also expected to be heavy on Wednesday due to Freshman Convocation, which is held at 3 p.m. in the Petersen Events Center.
