Attempted sexual assault reported on Oakland Avenue

Pitt police have issued a crime alert for an attempted sexual assault that occurred on the 300 block of Oakland Avenue early Sunday morning.

According to police, at approximately 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, a woman was walking down Oakland Avenue between Sennott and Bates streets when a man motioned to her and said something she couldn’t make out. She ignored the man, and a few minutes later he approached the victim, struck her in the face and then attempted to unbutton her pants. The victim then kneed the suspect in the groin and ran away.

The suspect was last seen continuing down Oakland Avenue toward Dawson Street. According to the victim, the suspect did not appear to be carrying any weapons.

Police said the victim described the suspect as a 5-foot-5 Hispanic male of thin build with short, dark hair. He was wearing blue jeans and a white V-neck T-shirt.
