Pitt’s School of Nursing received a $2 million donation to create the Joanne and William Conway Nursing Scholarship Program. 

Over the course of four years, the newly established program will use the money to recruit and support Accelerated Second-Degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) students. 

“This prestigious scholarship program will provide important financial support to students who already hold a degree and are forging a new pathway by embarking on a nursing career,” Christine E. Kasper, School of Nursing dean and professor, told Pittwire. “We are deeply grateful for the Conways’ generous support through the Bedford Falls Foundation-DAF.”

The Joanne and William Conway Nursing Scholarship Program will award, on average, $8,000 per ABSN student each year through the 2026-2027 academic year — ultimately funding 60 students per academic year at Pitt Nursing, who will be known as Conway Scholars, according to Pittwire.

The School of Nursing is hosting an open house for the ABSN on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:35 a.m. At the event, students will be able to participate in hands-on nursing activities in the Anatomy and Physiology Lab, meet current students and graduates of the program, participate in a shortened class lecture and more.
