A new publication led by Pitt assistant professor Stuart Shulman is being established to address this evolution.

The Journal of Information Technology and Politics is set for quarterly publication in the fall of 2007. It will be published by Haworth Press, which is affiliated with the American Political Science Association.

The goal of JITP is to publish scholarly articles, essay and book reviews, and policy analyses that fuse the ideas of a politics and information science in a language that is conducive to both fields.

“We’re just looking for a kind of niche that isn’t well serviced by the top disciplinary journals,” Shulman said.

The publication’s goal is to cater to both disciplines, he said, and especially today, where politics and technology are intrinsically linked.

“There are all sorts of new questions about privacy, data surveillance and the Internet,” Shulman said. “And they are legitimate questions that need to be discussed.”
