‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ This Tues., Oct. 28, the Eels will give a no-holds-barred performance at Rosebud, showcasing their vast array of music. They’re officially considered alternative rock, but there are many different influences in their songs, ranging from techno pop to classical.

‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ Their latest album, Shootenanny!, was released in June. The songs on the album encompass a wide range of emotions, from ‘Saturday Morning,’ which reminisces about waking up as a child and having nothing to do until your parents wake up, to ‘Lone Wolf,’ a wrenching study of what it’s like to be all alone in the world.

‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘Love of the Loveless’ is unique in that the singer for the Eels, Mark Everett — known to his fans simply as E — is urging his listeners to get out there and love people who don’t have anyone else in their lives. He reminds us of their plight in lyrics such as, ‘All around you people walking/Empty hearts and voices talking/Looking for and finding/Nothing.’

‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘Fashion Awards’ is a biting satirical look at the glitz and gaudiness of the fashion industry. Everett plays around with smart-ass lyrics like, ‘Let’s go down to the fashion show/With all the pretty people that you don’t know/We’ll sit down in the velvet chairs/They’ll hand out awards for best hair/And if we don’t win, well, then/We’ll blow our heads off in despair.’

‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ And the rawest song on this album is undoubtedly ‘Agony,’ whose harsh guitars combined with Everett’s raspy voice will strike a deep chord with even the most stony-hearted listener. We get a close look at his anguish in lyrics: ‘Cause everyday I’m here/All I feel is sheer/Agony/Friends telling me that maybe I need/Some psychiatric help/Yeah, they’re always so quick to tell you/Just how to get on with it/I look into the mirror/And all I see is age, fear/And agony.’

‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ The Eels are sure to rock hard Tuesday night. Don’t miss this electrifying stage show by one of the music industry’s most innovative bands.

The Eels will be at Rosebud in the Strip District this Tues., Oct. 28, at 8 p.m. Tickets are $16. For more information, call (412) 323-1919.
