Celebrating a solid release from Dream Works Records, A.F.I. prepares to deliver its special blend of spooky melodies, driven punk and high-energy sing-alongs to the Pittsburgh kids. Sing the Sorrow, released only a little more than a month ago, has received considerable airplay and praise from an eclectic mix of music lovers.

For the first time in what seems like an eternity, the move to a major label from a smaller producer isn’t catastrophic. Davey Havok’s vocals are worthy of tears and goose bumps, while the rest of the band execute tighter tracks than ever before. The only reason this release can be considered so radio friendly is because it’s so likeable.

Instead of changing to attract the masses, A.F.I. pushed their music one step further, resulting in a truly unique album and sound. The combination of fantastic music and a notorious live show might be capable of bring on the apocalypse, and what better way to spend the last few moments of your life than listening to some great rock ‘n’ roll.

Supporting A.F.I are The Explosion and Strike Anywhere. With both bands being less than 5 years old, it might seem a far leap for either band to shine in the shadow of the headliners. Not to worry. The Explosion are experts at generating serious politically charged punk that’s not too preachy and not too playful. The Boston band is also preparing to release a new EP on Tarantulas Records in late April and is sure to bring some punch with their performance.

Strike Anywhere, the toddlers of the group, formed in 1999 out of Richmond, Va., and have been delivering groundbreaking hardcore ever since. It’s safe to say that none of these bands cite Buffalo Tom as a major influence, or even a minor influence at that.

Sadly enough for fans of A.F.I., a major label contract results in heavier promotion for the band meaning this may be the last chance to catch the tragically beautiful voice of Davey Havok in a venue capable of holding less than 10,000 fans. With three thrilling bands gracing the stage for a moderate price, I dare you to find something better to do tonight.
