The piece of gum, chewed by Luis Gonzalez, is being auctioned off online. As weird as that sounds, it gets worse.
As of Wednesday, the Topps Co. had the highest bid, offering $3,200 for the gum. Kind of ironic that the guys who used to sell baseball cards with a rock hard stick of gum in the pack are willing to pay almost as much for a chewed piece as some people are willing to pay for a pack of Topps baseball cards.
Had someone like Babe Ruth or Honus Wagner chewed the gum, it might be conceivable to think that it would be worth so much money.
But it was Gonzalez, who until his World Series-winning bloop-single, was best known for having the same nickname as a blue weirdo with a big nose.
