Braves dynasty looks to be over in the NL East

The 2002 baseball season is only a few weeks old, but already the standings are being scrutinized. As I watched the Mets/Braves game Wednesday afternoon, the announcers made a big deal out of the fact that the Mets were in first place and 2 1/2 games ahead of the Braves.

OK, so they went through history showing all the times that the Braves were better than the Mets and how such a situation as this one had been unheard of, but it is ridiculous to overemphasize it so early in the season. If this was September and the two teams were in the hunt for a playoff spot, there might be some relevance.

Yes, there is a history between these teams and yes, the Braves always seem to come out on top. They win the National League East year after year. They beat the Mets in the NL Championship Series in 1999 when New York pitcher Kenny Rogers walked in the winning run.
