Damon Wilson cleared academically, eligible immediately

The NCAA has cleared Pitt freshman point guard Damon Wilson academically, Pitt confirmed on Thursday.

“We had great confidence that Damon was going to be fine academically, and we got the word yesterday [that he was cleared],” Pitt head coach Jamie Dixon said at a press conference Thursday. “It’s always hard when you have a guy that’s a good student being questioned about his eligibility. But he’s good, like we thought. No problems.”

Wilson, who attended Our Savior New American School in Centereach, New York, is Pitt’s only incoming freshman this season.

He is currently on the mend from a separated right shoulder that he suffered this summer, although Dixon said he expects him to be ready to go for the Panthers’ Nov. 13 season opener against Gonzaga in Okinawa, Japan.
