Pitt is cleaning and sanitizing several facilities around campus in an effort to make them available for the Pittsburgh medical community in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, though the process has not gone off without a hitch.
Sodexo laid off a majority of its workers without pay over spring break, when Pitt adjusted its dining services due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Market Central and The Perch, the two dining halls on campus, remain closed.

Pitt dining workers struggling with no pay after mass layoffs

Sodexo, the University’s dining contractor of 29 years, laid off a majority of its 400 to 500 workers without pay over spring break, when Pitt adjusted its dining services due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dan Yates, the Makerspace’s innovation project coordinator, is the only person currently allowed in the Makerspace, but he relies on a team of about 50 students in the Makerspace club to help design face masks and face shields.

Pitt engineers donate, create supplies for health care workers

Pitt moves summer classes online as pandemic continues

Provost Ann Cudd announced in a Friday email that all Pitt summer classes will be held online as the coronavirus pandemic continues. The move comes after classes finished their first week online, due to the pandemic, after an extended spring break.
 The first week of online classes at the University proceeded with no major issues, according to students and faculty.

University responds to pandemic’s effect on mental health

The changes to the semester and the unprecedented nature of the pandemic can evoke feelings of anxiety within students, said Dr. Jay Darr, director of the Counseling Center. According to Darr, the Counseling Center has modified its arrangement of services to assist students virtually, in lieu of in-person appointments.
