Students advised to shelter in place for 10 days before Thanksgiving break, can still attend in-person classes

Pitt advised all students in a Monday morning email to complete a 10-day shelter in place starting Nov. 12 before leaving for Thanksgiving break.
Pitt opened 25% of available seating in The Eatery at Market Central, The Perch, Einstein Bros. Bagels in Benedum and Posvar, Schenley Cafe, Cathedral Cafe and the Petersen Events Center Food Court last Monday.

In Pitt’s quarantine housing, students described lax rules and little oversight, allowing them to skirt the University’s physical distancing rules. One student said they went on walks outside, and others in the housing had visitors, even whole families.
About 400 to 500 dining workers were laid off in the spring under then dining contractor Sodexo when Pitt adjusted its dining services.
