Pitt’s Be A Good Neighbor Block Party fosters new connections for Oakland community

Pitt’s Office of Campus Engagement hosted its second block party of the year on 234 N. Dithridge St. in North Oakland on Tuesday evening.
The Be a Good Neighbor program hosts block parties at the start of every academic year to foster connections between the University and its Oakland neighbors. The first block party of the year was held Tuesday evening at the Dan Marino Field in South Oakland.

South O block party helps students, Oakland residents bond

Oakland isn’t just home to Pitt students. Pitt’s Community and Governmental Relations strives to bring Oakland residents and Pitt students together by kicking off the academic year with a series of welcome back block parties.
“Welsfest,” a block party that took place Saturday on Welsford Street in South Oakland, drew much larger crowds of Pitt students than expected.

About 1,000 Pitt students sang “Let’s go Pitt!” in the chorus of “Sweet Caroline,” supposedly broke a front porch and stood shoulder-to-shoulder this weekend at “Welsfest” — a block party on Welsford Street in South Oakland.
