Eatery dishwasher back in service, students still using plastic utensils

Students dining at the Eatery used paper plates, paper or plastic cups and plastic utensils in October while the dishwasher was out of service for maintenance.

Pitt began a partnership with Compass, a British multinational food company, in July 2020. A Compass spokesperson said the company hopes to reinvent the dining experience by creating initiatives that help students take charge of their nutrition and wellness.

Quintin Eason, the vice president of operations for Compass Group, said at SGB’s Tuesday meeting that there are plans in the works for a food delivery program with bikes as well as a grocery delivery program to students’ dorm rooms.

Pitt opened 25% of available seating in The Eatery, The Perch and other dining facilities across campus last Tuesday after shifting to the Guarded risk posture.
About 400 to 500 dining workers were laid off in the spring under then dining contractor Sodexo when Pitt adjusted its dining services.

Pitt dining worker union alleges ‘direct violation’ of contract by dining contractor, raises safety concerns
