Two Pitt diversity offices hosted a panel Wednesday afternoon focusing on the history of Native people in and around Pittsburgh, as well as examining the COVID-19 pandemic’s effect on Native communities.

Morgan Ottley, the president of the Black Action Society, said one of her organization’s main goals is to push for transparency from Pitt. She said the University’s new social justice website is a good place to start.

Clyde Pickett, a 2017 graduate of Pitt’s School of Education, was appointed as the University’s vice chancellor of diversity and inclusion in June.

X and other community members shared their thoughts on the Black Lives Matter movement and racial inequities in Pittsburgh at the panel discussion.

Pitt announced Wednesday that it reorganized the offices of Diversity and Inclusion and Disability Resources and Services at the beginning of October.
