Several SGB members at Tuesday night’s meeting encouraged students to register for Thursday’s virtual Meet the Candidates event and next Wednesday’s Presidential Debate in order to get to know the SGB candidates.

The Fossil Free Pitt Coalition unveiled a billboard Monday morning at the corner of the Boulevard of the Allies and Bates Street in South Oakland. The billboard features two eyes and the words, “PITT THE WORLD IS WATCHING, DIVEST NOW.” 
At SGB Tuesday night, President Eric Macadangdang remembered Pitt’s “Stronger than Hate” vigil on the Cathedral lawn in response to the Tree of Life massacre.

Student Government Board held a moment of silence for the Tree of Life massacre at its Tuesday night meeting, acknowledging the victims who lost their lives at the nearby synagogue two years ago.

Board committee investigating fossil fuel divestment announces membership

The board of trustees’ Ad-Hoc Committee on Fossil Fuels appointed six committee members as well as a team of liaisons last week. It plans to host public forums in September and October to gather public input about divestment.
University officials said the Board will vote on several measures related to fossil fuel divestment and socially responsible investing at their meeting on Friday at 10:30 a.m. Members of the Fossil Free Pitt Coalition demonstrated at Pitt’s previous Board of Trustees meeting at Pitt’s Johnstown campus.

Editorial: Board needs to be more transparent about divestment process

The Board’s voting process is largely shrouded in mystery, leaving the public unsure of the exact agenda of the meeting. Pitt’s Board of Trustees needs to remedy this and be more transparent and timely about the road to divestment.
