Students are away, athletes play: Pitt stacks victories over Thanksgiving break

Pitt sports had a busy Thanksgiving break, with many games bridging the week-long gap. Volleyball concluded regular season play in dominating fashion, while both the men’s and women’s basketball teams took part in traditional early-season tournaments.

Panthers pound pair of Wildcat squads for Ft. Myers Tip-Off title

The Panthers were seeing purple all week long when they travelled south to Ft. Myers, Florida for the Fort Myers Tip-Off Tournament this week. Pitt (6-2 overall, 1-0 ACC) sneaked past Kansas State (5-1 overall, 0-0 Big 12) for a 63-59 win on Monday before downing Northwestern (3-3 overall, 0-0 Big 10) in the Championship game on Wednesday.

Pitt men’s basketball looked like the best version of itself during a comfortable victory on Thursday night, albeit against a lowly and winless Arkansas Pine-Bluff squad.

On Monday night, Pitt men’s basketball will welcome the Monmouth University Hawks for their fourth non-conference game of the season, hoping to move their winning percentage back above .500. But outside the lines, there’s a lot to know about the Hawks, whose influence stretches from inches beyond the court all the way to the White House.

Panthers cede in second half, lose to WVU, 68-53

75 miles and different shades of blue and gold. Off of the hardwood, not much separates West Virginia (2-0, 0-0 Big 12) and Pitt (2-2, 1-0 ACC). But on Friday night, a mere 20 minutes of basketball proved how big the gap remains between the two hated rivals.
