Panthers prep for historic home tournament match

1965 was an eventful year both around the world and right here at Pitt. The University was in talks to become a state-related institution, Chancellor Edward Litchfield resigned and the men’s soccer team appeared in the NCAA National Tournament for the second time in four years.
Despite the 1-0 loss to Clemson in South Carolina Wednesday night, the Panthers set new records by making it to the semifinal stage in the ACC tournament for the first time in program history.

Clemson’s single semifinal score dooms Pitt in ACC tournament

No. 4-seeded Pitt and No. 1-seeded Clemson rocked back and forth to the very end in a competitive ACC tournament semifinal matchup. A single score in the 44th minute for Clemson proved too much for Pitt, which lost 1-0 in South Carolina Wednesday night.
No. 3 Pitt men’s soccer extended its win streak to four with a convincing 2-0 victory over Notre Dame on Saturday night.

Win vs. Wolfpack puts Panther soccer in semifinals

Pitt men’s soccer won the biggest ACC game in program history, defeating North Carolina State 2-1 in overtime in the ACC tournament quarterfinals in front of a packed crowd at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
Pitt volleyball swept Wake Forest 3-0 at home on Friday, improving it’s record to 22-1 overall and 11-0 in the ACC.

Pitt athletics collected a mixed bag this Halloween weekend — of wins and losses, not candy. A record-setting volleyball win and title-winning bouts for Panther wrestlers were dampened by a rough outing in cross country and a tough loss in men's soccer.

Weekend Sports Recap: Soccer teams contrast triumph and tribulation

This weekend in Pitt sports saw both highs and heartbreaks with the men’s and women’s soccer teams, as both programs continue their runs through the gauntlet of ACC competition. But as the soccer season began winding down, Pitt wrestling was only beginning its season by hosting an intrasquad scrimmage at the Fitzgerald Field House. And to no one’s surprise, No. 3 Pitt volleyball steamrolled some of the conference’s stronger teams.
Pitt volleyball continued its win streak this weekend, sweeping both UNC and NC State.

Victory Lights burn bright during dominant weekend for Pitt athletics

Pitt athletics did its best to combat autumn’s shrinking days and growing nights by stacking win upon win over the weekend and lighting the top of the Cathedral. In what may be one of the best weekends in recent Pitt sports history, there were upsets, new milestones and continued dominance, all worthy of Cathy’s weekly light show.
Head coach Jay Vidovich came to Pitt in 2015 after an illustrious career at Wake Forest where he served as an assistant coach from 1986-93 and then as head coach from 1994-2014.

Pitt men’s soccer succumbs to PSU, 3-1

After knocking off No. 22 Virginia Tech last Friday, the Panthers couldn’t maintain their momentum and fell 3-1 at Penn State on Tuesday night.
Pitt swept all four diving events on Saturday at a quad meet against Duquesne, Villanova and Youngstown State at home.

Weekend Sports Recap: West’s OT header vaults women’s soccer to victory

Pitt’s soccer programs posted a pair of historic wins this past weekend, but they still stare down the remaining gauntlet of ACC play. Meanwhile, Panthers volleyball continued to mow down weaker conference opponents and both swimming and diving teams combined for 25 event wins in a quad meet at Trees Pool.
