Experts say monkeypox is on the decline globally and in Allegheny County

An unnamed University spokesperson confirmed that there was a second student case of monkeypox on Nov. 1. This occurred amid a local and global decline in cases, as reported by the ACHD and the CDC.

First student monkeypox case reported on campus

Pitt announced Wednesday that a student has tested positive for the monkeypox virus as of Aug. 29. According to the email from Jay Darr, the associate dean of students for wellness, the student is currently in isolation and recovering from the virus.

Even though there have been no confirmed student cases of monkeypox at Pitt as of Aug. 24, according to Pitt spokesperson Janine Fisher, some students fear that the University might return to the days of isolation and virtual learning that they experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic.
