Michael chooses Elon, Pitt eyeing Murphy III

Recently, Pitt men’s basketball’s roster became subject to college basketball’s ever-volatile transfer portal. Now the Panthers are trying to use it to bolster a crop of already talented newcomers.

Pitt basketball junior guard Ryan Murphy is entering the NCAA transfer portal as a graduate transfer with one year of remaining eligibility.

After turning the ball over twice in a span of six seconds and squandering a four-point lead, junior guard Ryan Murphy’s long jumper with only four seconds remaining lifted the Panthers (13-6 overall, 4-4 ACC) to their fourth conference win of the season over Boston College (9-10 overall, 3-5 ACC), surpassing last season’s conference win total with 12 games yet to play.

When Pitt downed Florida State in the season opener last November the possibilities seemed endless. Pitt had a winning conference record for the first time since 2016 and head coach Jeff Capel’s rebuild appeared to be right on track.  13 games later, Capel and his Panthers have been knocked down a peg. Pitt (10-4, 1-2 ACC) squandered a 16-point first half lead and lost, 69-65 to Wake Forest (8-5, 1-2 ACC) on Saturday afternoon.

Pitt men’s basketball fell victim to a post-Florida State hangover and lost 75-70 to Nicholls State on Saturday afternoon. Now, Jeff Capel and his squad are forced to revisit their preseason mantra before a road contest with Robert Morris.
