No. 24 Pitt men’s soccer moves on, win overtime battle against NC State in first round of ACC tournament

No. 24 Pitt men’s soccer pulled out a late 4-1 victory against NC State Wednesday night at Ambrose Urbanic Field in the first round of the ACC tournament. Michael Sullivan scored the game winner for the Panthers in the first overtime period.

Jeff Capel said Saturday that there are “so many ways to lose” in college basketball. Pitt explored many of those ways, but made enough timely plays to escape with a 71-69 win over NC State — its first against the Wolfpack since 2014.

Pitt overpowered by No. 2 NC State in ACC opener

Pitt women’s basketball entered Friday night’s home game against No. 2 NC State riding its best start since 2009. But a blowout loss proved that the Panthers — despite their improvements — are still a long way from competing with the elite.
Pitt men’s basketball (9-10 overall, 5-9 ACC) has now lost eight of it’s last nine games after falling 62-65 at NC State (12-9 overall, 8-8 ACC) on Sunday afternoon. The team also lost two of its players, juniors Xavier Johnson and Au’Diese Toney, after they transferred.

They traveled to Raleigh, North Carolina on Saturday looking to snap another long skid against NC State (18-11 overall, 9-9 ACC), to whom the Panthers (15-15 overall, 6-13 ACC) have lost nine straight contests, but fell agonizingly short in a 77-73 loss. Poor free throw shooting made for long scoring droughts and the Wolfpack capitalized on their opponent’s mediocrity from the charity stripe.
