Although I realize the importance of attending classes, sometimes it’s just not that plain and simple. As everything piles up, attending class, keeping up with assignments and other responsibilities are things that most of us cannot handle as the semester gets busier. Keeping up your grades and GPA is vital, but if you are not taking care of yourself as well, getting good scores might become unattainable.

Beauty products and self-care activities are not exclusive to women — although they’re depicted as such by social media and strategic marketing tactics. Self-care can range from exercising to getting enough sleep to practicing good hygiene. It is anything you do to take care of yourself so you can stay mentally, physically and emotionally well.

Pitt’s University Counseling Center provided Self-Care Day activities like the SMASH Mobile Rage Room, where students wrote down their stressors on a plate before smashing them.

‘Better than nothing’: Students reflect on last week’s Self-Care Day

Students celebrated the first Self-Care Day of the semester last Tuesday. Students got one Self-Care Day last semester in October. Following a request from Student Government Board President Eric Macadangdang, students were given two Self-Care Days this semester — with the next one on March 24 — after spring break was cancelled.
