Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum hosted its annual Memorial Day celebration on Monday to honor the 293 veterans from Pennsylvania who have been killed in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. As part of the celebration, Soldiers and Sailors displayed John J. Pinder’s Medal of Honor. Pinder was born near Pittsburgh and died in World War II. Approximately 1,700 veterans and their families came to Soldiers and Sailors throughout the day, according to Soldiers and Sailors president and CEO John McCabe. Besides honoring the fallen, McCabe said, this year’s celebration served to promote the museum’s mission.
“This place is all about veterans. We know people are walking by and wondering what goes on inside. Well, we’ll tell you,” McCabe said.
