The provost’s office has approved the new policy, former Student Government Board member Nila Devanath announced at last night’s Board meeting.

Devanath, a senior, said she has worked on this policy for the past four years.

“I won’t be here to use it, but hey, at least you guys will,” she said.

Devanath did not give details as to how a student with three scheduled exams would go about resolving the conflict, but past propositions have included a form a student would have to fill out and submit to the University.

Pitt senior Caryn Goldenberg said she appreciated that SGB moved to Nordy’s Place.

“I think it’s a nice environment to have you guys here. I used to go up to the eighth floor, and it’s definitely a little more open and a little more informal,” she said.

But Goldenberg voiced some concerns.

“It’s really hard to hear people, especially speakers,” she said.

She mentioned that the sounds of Nordy’s Place might drown out speakers for people sitting far away in the audience.

The meeting last night began with microphone problems, as it did last week, but the table was adorned with new official name plaques of each Board member.

Board President Charlie Shull thanked Goldenberg for her input and said next meeting he would try to have a microphone for speakers.

During allocations, the Board abided by its newly approved resolution of postponing a group’s allocations decision when no member is in attendance — no representative of Pitt Pendulums attended the meeting last night. The new resolution says that when the Board has an allocations decision for a particular organization, a member of that organization must be present at the meeting.

Board member Phil LaRue, addressing the group’s absence, said if an organization cares about its money, members will come.

Shull said it was responsible of the Board to postpone the decision.

Board member Molly Stieber added, “This is exactly why we have this resolution in place.”

SGB Notes

—There will be two educational sessions for Pitt Day in Harrisburg, when students will lobby the state legislature to rally for more money from the Commonwealth. One session is March 4 at 8:30 p.m. in the Union’s Kurtzman Room. The other is March 15 at 5:30 p.m. in room 548 of the Union.

— Student organization budgets are due Friday, March 5.
