Tell your boyfriend/girlfriend or your best friend that you’re taking them out to see comedian Jackie Flynn.
Flynn will be performing at The Imrov from Jan. 15 through Jan. 18.
Unfamiliar with Flynn? Well, he has made appearances in the recent flick “Stuck On You,” and past movies like “Shallow Hal” and “There’s Something About Mary.” He played the roles of the manager in “Shallow Hal,” and Trooper Pritchard in “Me, Myself ‘ Irene.” Flynn is also no stranger to television comedy, as he has guest-starred on CBS’s “King of Queens.”
Still have no idea who he is? If his stage act is anything like his movie performances, including several roles in the famously crude films of the Farrelly brothers, then you can expect a grossly hilarious evening.
If these reasons don’t have you fully convinced, there is the added plus that the show gets you out of your old, tired weekend routine. It’s a chance for you to get dressed up and away from Oakland. You could go for dinner for two and have several drinks while waiting for the performance to begin.
For those of you familiar with Flynn’s work, you may recognize that he’s been noted as one of the most popular comics on the circuit. He’s a member of Boston’s “Laugh Pack” and is often compared to fellow comedians Jay Leno and Dennis Leary, among others.
He beat out contestants in the San Francisco Comedy Competition. And in 2000, Flynn was the highlight performer at the Montreal Just for Laughs Festival Gala. Following that, in 2001, he was chosen to show off his comedic routine at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colorado.
If that gives you enough reason to drop your remote and TV dinner to go out and watch Flynn perform at The Improv this weekend, then you’re in for a great night of laughs.
