Rozelle Nix, a 7-foot-tall center from Pensacola State College (Fla.), committed to play for the Pitt basketball team on Sunday.

Nix committed two days after visiting the school on Oct. 24 during the team’s Spike and Slam Madness, Pitt’s basketball season kick-off on Friday night. He was also considering Loyola Marymount and South Carolina.

The junior college transfer will join four-star point guard Damon Wilson in Pitt’s 2015 recruiting class. Nix reportedly lost more than 60 pounds since he first arrived at Pensacola State College and now sits at 320 pounds. He averaged six and a half points and five rebounds per game last season.

“It’s a chance to play in the best conference in college basketball, a chance to play and go to the NCAA Tournament,” Pensacola assistant coach Joey Murdock told SNY.tv.

Nix will have two years of eligibility when he joins the team next season. With senior center Derrick Randall graduating this year, Nix will join Tyrone Haughton and Joseph Uchebo as the centers on Pitt’s 2015-2016 team.
