Pitt women’s soccer defeated the Central Michigan Chippewas 1-0 Sunday at Ambrose Urbanic Field. Sophomore midfielder Roosa Arvas (45’) scored with time nearly expired in the first to give Pitt the only goal it needed.

Pitt started Sunday’s match aggressive, as the Panthers placed four shots on goal within the first 10 minutes of play. But none resulted in a goal.

The next best chance for the Panthers to score came in the 17th minute off of a corner kick. Arvas sent a perfect ball into the box that defender Morgan Sharick headed just high.

After the corner kick attempt went high, it looked liked the game was going to go into the half tied. But with seconds remaining, Arvas changed that.

Alyssa Meier sent a perfect ball to a charging Arvas who dodged the Chippewas’ keeper and sent a perfect shot into the back of the net. The goal was scored with just six seconds remaining the half.

In the second half, play was extremely even as Pitt out shot Central Michigan by a slim 8-5 margin.

Pitt goalie Nicole D’Agostino continued her strong play this season as the junior accumulated another five saves and didn’t allow a goal.

This season, D’Agostino has given up only two goals in three starts, which is good for a 0.67 goals against average.

With the win, Pitt’s record improves to 3-1-0 while Central Michigan falls to 0-2-1.
