It’s not just your imagination — from “Welsfest” Snapchat stories or a record-breaking number of first years, Pitt’s campus has been much busier lately. The first week of fully in-person classes began Monday, after two weeks of an in-person optional format.

Falling tree limb strikes student on Cathedral lawn

A falling tree limb struck a student on the Fifth Avenue side of the Cathedral lawn Tuesday evening. University spokesperson David Seldin said the student was able to walk, but was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital for examination.
A total of 7,053 dog tags were strung across the entrance to Soldiers & Sailors starting Sept. 2 and will be up through the end of the month. The dog tags represent American lives lost in the past two decades from conflict overseas after the 9/11 attacks.

Students offer mixed feelings about return to in-person classes

When the University announced a two-week optional online period, many students reacted with trepidation over another semester online. Now, as that period comes to an end, students are experiencing a variety of feelings about mandatory in-person classes.
Chancellor Patrick Gallagher said at Wednesday’s Senate Council meeting that unvaccinated students will be required to take weekly COVID tests, and a positive test will result in the inability to access campus buildings.
