Students, professors adapt to online learning

Pitt’s fall semester kicked off last week, but the Cathedral of Learning was empty as students largely connected in Zoom meetings instead of classrooms. The Zoom meetings had their own set of glitches though — literally.

The Oakland Planning and Development Corp. held a community meeting online Tuesday night, providing a space to give updates on projects happening around the neighborhood as well as allowing community members to give their feedback. Clark Street Holdings presented its plan to develop a multi-use space, similar to the recently constructed Bridge on Forbes building, on the former site of the Marathon gas station at 3500 Forbes Ave.
After widespread Black Lives Matter protests across the country, first-year students will now be required to take a course on anti-racism.

Pitt offers new mandatory anti-racism class for first year students

The University is offering a one-credit online course on systemic anti-racism and anti-Black racism called Anti-Black Racism: History, Ideology and Resistance beginning this fall.
The Pitt News will publish one print edition per week on Wednesdays, but will continue to break news and post online daily.

Student orgs adapt recruiting to virtual Activities Fair

Students flocked to virtual Zoom calls to find social, service, sport and academic organizations to join. Held from 1-3 p.m. online through Campus Labs, the virtual Activities Fair featured 424 clubs, each with their own virtual room for students to drop in to learn more about the organization, ask questions and express their interest.
The construction project on Bigelow Boulevard, originally scheduled to finish in August, is now scheduled to be completed in October.

Pitt to continue construction on ‘essential’ projects only

The construction on Bigelow Boulevard is now set to finish its third and final phase in October. It originally had an August completion date, before Welcome Week for incoming first-year students.
