Pitt cancels all fall study abroad programming as pandemic continues

Pitt is cancelling all fall and full-year study abroad and study away programs in 2020 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, according to a Wednesday email from a top University official.
Pitt will resume construction activity on Bigelow Boulevard following an order from Gov. Tom Wolf permitting construction projects in PA to resume.

As businesses shutter across Pennsylvania in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the roaring sounds of construction normally heard across Pitt have gone silent as well.
Most students have not been able to meet with their advisers in person and have had to rely on programs like Zoom and Skype as well as emails and phone calls to plan their academic progress.

Course enrollment continues as planned, academic advising moves online

While advisers are unable to meet with students in person, scheduling for the fall semester is still moving forward, with students and advisers handling appointments through Zoom, Skype, Teams, phone calls and emails.
Pitt made Lothrop Hall available as supplemental housing for UPMC medical staff, and is in the process of clearing out other residence halls as well.

Cleaning house: Pitt tosses, stores student belongings to prepare facilities for COVID-19 fight

Pitt is cleaning and sanitizing several facilities around campus in an effort to make them available for the Pittsburgh medical community in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, though the process has not gone off without a hitch.
Sodexo laid off a majority of its workers without pay over spring break, when Pitt adjusted its dining services due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Market Central and The Perch, the two dining halls on campus, remain closed.

Pitt moves summer classes online as pandemic continues

Provost Ann Cudd announced in a Friday email that all Pitt summer classes will be held online as the coronavirus pandemic continues. The move comes after classes finished their first week online, due to the pandemic, after an extended spring break.
The first week of online classes at the University proceeded with no major issues, according to students and faculty.

A petition urging the Pitt administration to modify the pass/fail grading policy for the spring semester in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic has gathered thousands of signatures since its creation two days ago.

Pitt to allow students to move courses to pass/fail status at semester’s end
