Opinion | Everyone should have a craft

By Livia LaMarca, Assistant Opinions Editor October 6, 2023
Doing crafts or other creative activities is fantastic for your mental health. Regardless of the creative activity you choose to partake in, research shows that crafting can “bolster mood, improve self-confidence and reduce stress overall.” And for everyone, especially college students, finding ways to manage your mental health and achieve these outcomes is of the utmost importance.

Opinion | Missing the bus: PRT service changes are isolating entire communities

By India Krug, Senior Staff Columnist October 5, 2023
On Oct. 1, the cuts to Pittsburgh Regional Transit lines took effect, despite much community opposition. Four of arguably the most popular bus routes — the 71A-Negley, 71C-Point Breeze, 71D-Hamilton and 61D-Murray — no longer go Downtown. Instead, they end in Oakland and turn around.
Opinion | Classes are important, but so is taking care of yourself

Opinion | Classes are important, but so is taking care of yourself

By Emily O'Neil, Senior Staff Columnist October 4, 2023
Although I realize the importance of attending classes, sometimes it’s just not that plain and simple. As everything piles up, attending class, keeping up with assignments and other responsibilities are things that most of us cannot handle as the semester gets busier. Keeping up your grades and GPA is vital, but if you are not taking care of yourself as well, getting good scores might become unattainable.

By The Pitt News Editorial Board October 1, 2023

Opinion | Yes, I still face gender bias, even in the political science field

By Emily O'Neil, Senior Staff Columnist September 28, 2023
As a woman living in the 21st century, I witness and experience gender biases regularly. Gender inequality permeates almost every aspect of life. Having to continuously be aware that my gender will create disadvantages is a harsh reality that all women must come to terms with.
Opinion | Normalize self-care and beauty products as gender neutral

Opinion | Normalize self-care and beauty products as gender neutral

By Kelly Xiong, Senior Staff Columnist September 28, 2023
Beauty products and self-care activities are not exclusive to women — although they’re depicted as such by social media and strategic marketing tactics. Self-care can range from exercising to getting enough sleep to practicing good hygiene. It is anything you do to take care of yourself so you can stay mentally, physically and emotionally well.
Culture Editor Patrick Swain expresses his love for the Oxford Comma by doodling in The Pitt News office.

Editorial | It’s time to embrace the Oxford comma

By The Pitt News Editorial Staff September 28, 2023
There are no Oxford commas in this article. It’s no mistake — AP Style generally discourages them. It’s time to give writers the right to employ the Oxford comma whenever they see fit.

Opinion | All interviews are good interviews

By Livia LaMarca, Assistant Opinions Editor September 26, 2023
When I called my parents the night I found out I didn’t get the position, they were still unbelievably proud of me. They ended the phone call with the same piece of advice they’ve used since my freshman year — all interviews are good interviews.
