Group of Jewish students attacked at Cathedral of Learning Friday evening, Hillel JUC responds

At around 11:30 p.m. on Friday night, the University confirmed that a group of Jewish students “were attacked by an individual wielding a bottle” near the Cathedral of Learning at around 6 p.m. Friday evening. The statement clarified that two of the students were treated for injuries at the scene and that the alleged perpetrator, who has “no known Pitt affiliation,” is in Pitt Police’s custody.

Pitt’s Student Coalition for Israel hosted Yadin Gellman, a former Israeli Defense Force soldier and Israeli actor, at the Hillel Jewish University Center on Wednesday evening for a crowd of 50 people. Just outside the speaker event, about 200 students and community members protested Gellman’s presence in Oakland.

About 20 students, staff and faculty gathered in Schenley Quad Monday morning for the annual “We Walk to Remember” event. Participants, who were silent during the walk, used the time to reflect and mourn lives lost during the Holocaust.

‘Appalled’: Pitt professor compared mask-wearing to the Holocaust
