Pitt student vaccinations to begin next Thursday, official says

Pitt’s COVID-19 Medical Response Office presented a plan on Tuesday evening to begin vaccinations, with up to 800 shots for Pitt and “local” students set for next Thursday and Friday at the Petersen Events Center.
Pitt has not disclosed the specific location of student quarantine and isolation housing.

In Pitt’s quarantine housing, students described lax rules and little oversight, allowing them to skirt the University’s physical distancing rules. One student said they went on walks outside, and others in the housing had visitors, even whole families.

For Emma Krapels, Pitt’s COVID-19 quarantine housing made her sicker than before she entered, but not from coronavirus. Krapels — who has celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder where eating gluten causes damage to the small intestine — said she suspects she was given gluten on Sept. 17 while in the housing, causing her to “vomit profusely.”
