Pitt’s Chinese American and Vietnamese student associations hosted a Lunar New Year festival on Saturday, returning to an in-person celebration. The event included performances from student artists, R&B singer Thuy and many more.

Pitt students and faculty stopped by the Global Hub on Wednesday to enjoy the Lunar New Year celebration. Lunar New Year, also known as Chinese New Year, is a festival that celebrates the beginning of the new year based on the lunar calendar.

Unlike the Gregorian calendar, with which most Americans are most familiar, the lunar calendar tracks time based on the cycles of the moon rather than the movement of the earth around the sun.

Pitt’s Lunar New Year celebration, hosted this past weekend by Pitt’s Chinese American Students Association and VSA in an event titled “Pitt CASA x VSA: Lunar New Year 2019,” brought in over 200 guests.
