Polar vortex continues into Thursday, Pitt remains open

Slippery Rock University, Youngstown State University, Duquesne University, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh Public Schools, Point Park University, Carlow University and Penn State University have all stated they will be closed or cancel classes today.

The University cancelled classes on Wednesday, but the petitions continue to circulate as students urge Gallagher to cancel classes on Thursday as well.

Despite predicted wind chills as low as minus 20 degrees Fahrenheit Wednesday — and a petition with more than 8,500 signatures demanding Pitt cancel classes — the University of Pittsburgh does not plan to close Wednesday, according to Pitt spokesperson Joe Miksch.
