Some of the Pitt community’s smallest pedestrians are missing this semester — the Starship Technologies food delivery robots. The robots, which became a part of campus culture, provided a meal option right outside students’ doors.

Starship food robots will now deliver food from Common Grounds, Forbes Street Market, Sub Connection and other campus dining options.

The r/Pitt Reddit users reacted poorly and took out their anger over the robots removal on someone who was anticipating problems of accessibility for students in wheelchairs.

Starship Technologies announced Tuesday that its food robots, which have already been seen around Oakland in their pilot phase, have begun completing deliveries to students on lower campus.

A Starship spokesman said the video showed Emily Ackerman traveling “past the robot without stopping" in her wheelchair.

Pitt has paused testing of its Starship Technologies food delivery robots after a student raised concerns about safety issues the robots may create for wheelchair users.
