For Pitt fans, Thursday meant the renewal of bad blood between two rivals that sit just 75 miles apart. For the first time in over a decade, it was Brawl Day.

In front of an animated home crowd, Pitt and West Virginia played a game befitting its nickname. In a chippy matchup between rivals, the Panthers succumbed to “Press Virginia,” turning the ball over 32 times in a 74-59 loss to the Mountaineers.
Pitt baseball beat West Virginia 5-1 on Tuesday, ending a six-game losing streak against the Backyard Brawl rival.

No. 24 Pitt ended a six-game losing streak against rival West Virginia on Saturday, clinching a 5-1 Backyard Brawl victory behind a solid performance from senior pitcher Chris Gomez and an explosive third inning.
The No. 19 Pitt volleyball team managed to remain steady during a dominant 3-0 sweep of rival West Virginia. The Panthers have not played a “Backyard Brawl” against the Mountaineers since 2011, and won with scores of 25-8, 25-12 and 25-15, respectively.

Pitt volleyball faced West Virginia for the first time in a decade on Wednesday, cruising to a 3-0 sweep.
Pitt gymnastics (6-10-1, 5-7-1 EAGL) won a match against West Virginia (2-7, 0-6 Big 12) on Friday night, beating the Mountaineers by a final score of 195.100-194.675 at the Fitzgerald Field House. However, the team couldn’t maintain momentum and ultimately lost on Sunday by a margin of 196.100-193.400.

After Pitt gymnastics (6-10-1, 5-7-1 EAGL) lost its first match in the three-meet series of the Backyard Brawl, the Panthers came back with a vengeance in match two on Friday night, beating West Virginia (2-7, 0-6 Big 12) by a final score of 195.100-194.675 at the Fitzgerald Field House. But despite their opponent's momentum, the Mountaineers turned out a compelling win on Sunday by a margin of 196.100-193.400.

Pitt gymnastics (5-9-1) took the floor of the Fitzgerald Field House for the first of three dual meets against rival West Virginia (1-6 overall, 0-6 Big 12) on Friday night. The Panthers were unable to overcome dazzling floor routines from the Mountaineers in a 195.900-194.175 loss, but an event win for junior Olivia Miller and Coca’s first trip through the all-around category softened the sting of defeat.
Redshirt sophomore Micky Phillippi improved to 8-0 on the year during Pitt’s 29-6 victory over West Virginia.
