As the number of swine flu cases decreases across campus, a Pitt student was hospitalized late… As the number of swine flu cases decreases across campus, a Pitt student was hospitalized late last month for symptoms that suggested possible H1N1, according to a University official.

Jay Frerotte, Pitt’s director of Environmental Health and Safety, said a local hospital notified Pitt that an undergraduate student had been hospitalized on Sept. 23 for “influenza-like symptoms.”

The University is monitoring possible cases of H1N1 by the number of people reporting flu-like symptoms.

Frerotte said the hospital discharged the student on Wednesday, and the student is now recuperating at home.

Fewer people reported flu-like illnesses in the past week, Frerotte said. Twenty-eight students had active cases of symptoms similar to the flu as of Wednesday, and four of them lived in residence halls.

Frerotte said the number of students with self-reported flu-like illnesses has declined during the past week, averaging five per day.
