Oakland is about to get a lot smokier this fall semester. Pitt student’s meal options have recently expanded to include a brand new food truck, Smokeland BBQ, boasting freshly made and locally sourced barbecue.
Picklesburgh will return from Aug. 20-22 on the Andy Warhol Bridge. The summer food festival centered around pickles will also include cooking demonstrations, pickle drinks, pickle ice cream and more.

Brew Gentlemen is a craft brewery located in Braddock. Matt Katase and Asa Foster, both Carnegie Mellon University graduates, opened the brewery in 2014.

Mellinger’s Beer Distributor was voted the best beer distributor in Oakland, according to The Pitt News’ readership. The store switched management in February after the current owners, Neil and Neha Shah, bought it from Diana Bellisario, who owned and operated the distributor for just three months shy of 30 years.

Hemingway’s Cafe announced last Friday that it will reopen March 31, with modified hours to account for the state’s current 11 p.m. curfew on alcohol sales. The reopening comes more than a year after the bar, located on Forbes Avenue, initially closed on March 14, 2020.
