The Pitt Athletics primary Twitter account had 17 tweets in February surrounding Black History Month, with a greater volume of content coming toward the end of the month.

‘Find it all’: Africana Studies department reflects on teaching Black history, culture

Professors in the Africana Studies department have worked to highlight the department’s courses as well as Black history and culture throughout the year, but especially during Black History Month in February.
A panel met in the evening on Feb. 24 to discuss how the University has and should continue to improve the Black Pitt experience. Clyde Wilson Pickett, the vice chancellor for diversity, equity and inclusion, introduced the annual Black History Month event, hosted in honor of Pitt’s very own K. Leroy Irvis.

Bobby Grier was a fullback and linebacker, and only Black player on the team in 1956, for Pitt football from 1952-55. Now, he is 88 years old, and known as the man who integrated the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 2, 1956.
