Hundreds of Pitt students flocked to the polls Tuesday to cast their ballots in Pennsylvania’s midterms. Many reported voting for all Democratic candidates, saying protecting abortion access and promoting clean energy were their deciding factors.
Democrats John Fetterman, Josh Shapiro, Summer Lee and Dan Frankel won the race for U.S. Senate, governor, U.S. House of Representatives and Pennsylvania House of Representatives, respectively.

Pitt students say everything from the economy to crime to climate change is on the ballot as voters determine whether Democrat Josh Shapiro or Republican Doug Mastriano will become Pennsylvania’s next governor.
For Matthew Dorrycott, president of the Young Democratic Socialists of America at Pitt, Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. John Fetterman’s stance opposing fracking in his debate against Dr. Mehmet Oz was “disappointing.”
Pitt’s College Democrats are working with other clubs to spread the word about democratic candidates in the midterm elections. In the past month, Arvind Venkat, Summer Lee and Josh Shapiro have spoken at events for the organization.
