The last time Pitt met Notre Dame on the playing field, it was the last game in Pitt Stadium…. The last time Pitt met Notre Dame on the playing field, it was the last game in Pitt Stadium. The game was a celebration of a wonderful stadium and an up-and-coming Pitt football program.

This week Pitt and Notre Dame meet for the first time since that glorious November day in 1999. One big difference is there are no celebrations for the Panthers, who are a disappointing 1-2, or the Fighting Irish, who have yet to win a game in three tries.

Last year, both Pitt and Notre Dame met in Phoenix in late December, not to play each other, but to play in the Insight.com Bowl and the Fiesta Bowl, respectively. Both teams got trampled on, and neither has overcome the losses.
