Vaccinated individuals are no longer required to wear face coverings when on campus outdoors, according to a Pitt email announcement sent on Friday afternoon.

Despite the majority of Pitt students leaving campus for the summer, Jack Corey, a third-year pharmacy student, said he hasn’t noticed a significant decrease in visitors to the University’s vaccine clinics this summer.
The Oakland Planning and Development Corp. met Tuesday night to discuss various restructuring plans on and around campus, as well as broader community opportunities.

The Oakland Planning and Development Corp. held a public meeting Tuesday night for the Oakland community, which included a proposal to build a 210,000 gallon underground tank to collect stormwater.

While there are still events being planned for Pitt’s October celebration of Mental Health Awareness Month, organized by Student Government in cooperation with more than 15 student organizations, Eva Steele, vice-chair of the Mental Health Student Coalition, said mental health resources are always available and awareness can be raised year round.

Pitt added 15 new COVID-19 cases, composed of 13 students and two employees, between Tuesday and Thursday, with 42 students currently in isolation. Pitt is opening a new vaccine clinic next week at the former AT&T storefront on Fifth Avenue in Nordenberg Hall.

All students should get the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine even if they can’t get the second dose at the same location, according to Pitt officials. The Senate Council discussed Pitt’s vaccination efforts, COVID-19 response and graduation on Thursday.
A team of researchers has recently shown seven independent virus variant lineages across the United States that have evolved a mutation in the same place on the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. Local sequencing company Microbial Genome Sequencing Center did the sequencing for this study.
