SOOS, Green Fund work to build sustainable future at Pitt

The Pitt Green Fund aims to fund sustainability initiatives on Pitt’s campus to promote environmental justice. Leaders said they also hope to promote diversity, equity and justice on campus through their sustainability work.

SGB released a statement on Sunday supporting Pitt faculty’s “freedom to vote and freedom to unionize” in the ongoing faculty union election. It also criticizes Pitt’s relationship with Ballard Spahr, a “union avoidance” law firm.
Hosted by the Office for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, the first Latinx Connect Conference will run Oct. 14-16. The conference is virtual, free and seeks to elevate Latinx identities and contemporary issues.

After several Oakland residents submitted a petition, Pittsburgh City Council held a public hearing on Tuesday to discuss Walnut Capital’s proposal to amend the City’s zoning code. Around 25 community members spoke at the hearing, with most denouncing the proposal.

Pitt’s Faculty Assembly this week discussed performance criteria for faculty members, formed an ad-hoc committee on dependent care and talked about efforts to explore the possibility of a COVID-19 vaccine requirement.
ID scanners at building entrances are undergoing a system update but still operational. The system update began Wednesday at 5 p.m. and should finish Friday evening.
