SGB discusses elections, upcoming diversity and inclusion events

With 15 students running for Pitt’s Student Government Board — 12 for board positions and three for president — current SGB president Eric Macadangdang said the number of students running is a sign of a bright future for the board.
Pitt’s Office of Civil Rights and Title IX hosted an event titled “Violence on the Rise: The Troubled Relationship between COVID-19 and domestic violence” last September, which addressed the increase of domestic violence and sexual violence during the pandemic.

Amidst the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, intimate partner violence and sexual assault advocate groups remained certain about one thing — helping survivors.
Because the United States is celebrating its one year anniversary with the COVID-19 pandemic very soon, many Pitt students have encountered a wide array of relationship experiences, including being long distance, quarantining together, breaking up or “dating” around.

As the United States nears its one year anniversary with the COVID-19 pandemic, many Pitt students have encountered a wide array of relationship experiences, from being long distance, quarantining together, breaking up or “dating around.”
Pitt said roughly 4,800 students have moved into University housing for the spring semester as of Monday. These residents were grouped into one of four move-in dates — Jan. 29, Jan. 31, last Wednesday or last Friday.

The University-wide shelter-in-place period ended as of 7 a.m. Tuesday morning. 

SGB to revise constitution, add diversity statement

Student Government Board will vote Tuesday evening to advance changes to its constitution, including adjusting their definition of a student, adding a diversity and inclusion statement and changing the way vice presidents are selected.

The University allocated 25% of each student's dining dollars to 27 off-campus dining locations around the Oakland area under its new meal plans at the start of last semester. The vendors include Fuel and Fuddle, CHiKN, The Porch at Schenley and many more.

Pitt adds 16 COVID-19 cases since Tuesday

Pitt added 16 new COVID-19 cases, composed of 15 students and one employee, between Tuesday and Thursday, with 19 students currently in isolation. The University’s previous case report, covering last Friday to Monday, included 11 cases.
The Graduate Student Organizing Committee released a petition — addressed to Provost Ann Cudd, Chancellor Patrick Gallagher and the Board of Trustees — that asked Pitt’s administration to grant every funded graduate student the option of a one-year funding extension. It also calls for extra support for students who are parents or those struggling with housing, assistance for international students in navigating visa issues and more mental health services.

Grad union organizers criticize lack of no-questions-asked funding extension amid pandemic

The Graduate Student Organizing Committee is criticizing the University’s refusal to grant a no-questions-asked funding extension to graduate students amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Pitt is offering funding on a case-by-case basis, but didn’t respond to requests for comment on the specifics of the application.
