Service puppy raisers navigate training dogs during pandemic

Lily Swanson got a new best friend at the start of the pandemic — a half-lab, half-golden retriever puppy named Kenzo. Swanson has raised Kenzo since March through STEP@Pitt, a student organization dedicated to raising service dogs.
Carolyn Kerr works as an adjunct professor in Pitt’s College of Business Administration in addition to working as a communications consultant in the practice she started at age 29.

Pitt added 22 new COVID-19 cases, composed of 17 students and five employees, between last Friday and Monday, with 34 students currently in isolation. The University’s previous case report, covering last Tuesday and Thursday, included 26 cases.
Students in the Pitt Nursing and Pharmacy schools received emails informing them of their eligibility to receive the COVID-19 vaccine through the UPMC hospitals.

Biden, Harris have their work cut out for them, Pitt students say

As Pitt students began a new semester of classes, a new presidential administration was being sworn in in Washington. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were sworn in as the 46th president and 49th vice president of the United States on Wednesday.

Teddy bears are a common gift for any age or event, but for the Pitt community, teddy bears represent Holocaust survivor and educator Shulamit Bastacky, and her overwhelming kindness and passion to help others. Bastacky passed away Jan. 1 at 79.
Dr. John Williams, the head of the COVID-19 Medical Response Office, clarified details about Pitt’s vaccination effort, which could provide shots to up to 800 people, at Thursday afternoon’s Senate Council meeting.
